St. Peter's Indian Reserve

Articles & Reports (1859-1939)

Author: Craig Charbonneau Fontaine

It's been said that journalism is the first draft of history. Newspaper articles are an excellent medium in preserving events or stories. With this collection of various Manitoba newspapers articles covering St. Peter’s reserve, students and members of Peguis First Nation will get an appreciation of the once thriving and flourishing reserve north of present-day Selkirk, Manitoba. The articles were selected from the earliest newspaper accounts of St. Peter’s in 1859, from 1911 when the question as to the illegal surrender of the reserve were being debated, and up until 1939.
